How to Give Your Hair Curl and Bounce

Have you always wanted adorable ringlets, but were convinced your hair wouldn't hold? Show off your best Curly Sue looks with this simple guide on how to obtain retro 50's rings.

You'll first need to purchase a ceramic curling iron with a half inch barrel. Ceramic heating tools retain heat much more effectively, so go the extra mile and make the splurge. Also pick up a bottle of super-hold aerosol hairspray. Make sure your hair has just been washed before you begin to curl. If you normally have fluffier hair, keep the body and skip the initial product. However, if you have flat, limp hair, pump it up with a little pomade at the roots for some extra lift.

Turn on your curling iron and let it sit for a few minutes to ensure that it is fully heated. Part your hair as you desire, and grasp a small section (about as thick as your index finger) just outside of your part. Clamp the very tip of the section completely within the curling iron and leave no hair sticking out at the end. Follow the natural curve of the iron and twist the hair around the barrel, making sure to spread the hair evenly over the iron without doubling up. Keep the iron as close to your head as possible without burning yourself and hold for about thirty seconds. Slowly unclamp the curling iron and ease it out of the section of hair. Do not twist the iron outward, as it will undo the curl! Pull it straight out and leave the tight curl.

Continue this procedure until you have finished the whole head, taking the time to spray the curls once you have completed about five or so. When finished, use a soft-bristle brush to brush out the tight curls. Spray in place, and enjoy the bounce in your step!
