Three important components to healthy skincare:
The first part of keeping your skin healthy and in good condition is to cleanse properly. The cleansing does not need to be vigorous or damaging, but gentle and with the type of cleanser best suited to your skin type.
Cleansers come in different forms. They can be in the form of a bar, similar to bar soap for body cleansing, or in the form of gels or foams which when mixed with warm water expand and spread. The choice is personal preference for the most part, unless the brand you like doesn’t come in the form you prefer. Some brand names are just what you need in terms of cost, scent, and performance, but may come in the form of a bar and you prefer a gel. You decide what is important and what works for you. There is a wide variety of products on the market to choose from. The most important focus should be convenience and performance. It needs to be kept simple to make it easy to comply daily with any skincare routine.
Part two is choosing the moisturizer. Some experts may even go so far as to say moisturizers are more important than how you cleanse. As your skin ages, it normally lacks moisturizing oils that disappear during the aging process. Replenishing those natural oils, vitamins, and minerals needed for healthy skin helps the skin to revitalize and restore your skin tone to a natural glow.
Moisturizers come in forms for all skin types. Choose one to meet your needs. The moisturizers are suited for those who have oily skin, dry skin, and combination skin. You may need one type moisturizer for winter and a different one for summer, depending on how your skin acts during the hot and humid season. The type of moisturizer you choose may dictate how it is dispensed. Light weight moisturizers tend to come in a pump dispenser type bottle, while thick or creamy moisturizers come in a tub or jar.
Tip: Use a clean cotton ball each time you apply moisturizer from a jar to prevent contamination to your jar from germs on your fingers.
Part three is utilizing a sunscreen. Cleansing and moisturizing is important, but protecting your skin from damaging ultra violet rays keeps skin healthy, prevents skin cancers, and decreases the look of aging.
Whatever moisturizer you choose, remember that sunscreen during daytime hours is imperative. Watch for the sunscreen content in both moisturizers and in foundation make-up for daytime use. Sunscreen is an essential part of skin health and the process can be automatic if it is part of the regular product line you use for moisturizing. Again, there are many products available to choose from, but look for at least a product that contains SPF 15 or above. Many moisturizers and foundations contain an SPF of 30 or above for the best protection against ultraviolet rays.
Simple skincare is easy. Just do it every morning and night. Make it a habit and it will fall into your daily routine.
1. Cleanse
2. Moisturize
3. Sunscreen
Have fun choosing your products too. There are great new and natural products to choose from that will suit your preference in scent, cost, and performance. Your skin is your first line of defense and what others may first notice about you so do your part in keeping it healthy and glowing.
